John Burton

Head of Media Strategy

John Burton

John joined WATATAWA after a long career in journalism – bringing to us both the deep knowledge of issues and third-party objectivity which were essential to his 20-plus years with the world’s most respected business newspaper, the Financial Times. He worked as a correspondent for the FT based in Stockholm, Seoul and Singapore with the bulk of this experience covering political, financial and socio-economic developments in Southeast Asia and Korea. As a journalist he has interviewed the region’s major governmental and corporate leaders and established an extensive network of senior-level media contacts within the region. He offers unique insights and perspectives on Asian media, economic and political issues and these are important factors as we look at the most effective stakeholder engagement strategies for our clients. John is currently based in Seoul.

John’s sporting passion is watching his two favourite baseball teams — the New York Mets and Washington Nationals — compete in racing to the bottom of their division.
